How the concept of reservation brewed up in a country like India..

Sipping tea early in the morning and going through the newspapers,my eyes stopped at the political issues prevailing in our country. I then started to day-dream wondering what would be the scenario if there are separate podiums in every field on the basis of reservation.

Reservation is the most hotly debated topic in the present scenario. It has always been an issue of conflict and concern in a multi-religious society like India. Caste based reservation system is the most prominent one amongst it and has engulfed our entire nation like a wild fire.

The roots of distinction on the grounds of castes come directly from the earlier periods. People were discriminated on the basis of their caste and were made to work accordingly. The system has prevailed in our country since then.

A major step for the betterment and the upliftment of these communities was taken by Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar who took the initiative to resolve the problems and the difficulties faced by the people of a particular community. This initiative was passed earlier for the time period of ten years, but the problem continues to haunt us till now. Even after 70 years of independence, we are still struggling to cope up with this and emerge as an equality based nation.

The reservation in today’s scenario is way too different than what the policy makers thought to achieve. For some means, it does portray a beautiful picture, but on the other hand, it is bringing with itself some major flaws which are emerging and brightening up now. The rich is becoming richer and some categories of poor people who portray to be economically backward are also becoming rich. People who are actually poor are not getting the desired facilities and the requirements which they were promised.

The current situation throws light on the political aspects of reservation.Recently, in Gujarat; the government has taken various decisions for the abolishment of this system. It generally aims to improve the hustle bustle and the chaos which is persistent and the issue of reservation policy which has been glued to our country since a very long time. The steps taken by the government are somewhat expected to give positive results. The idea of the policy which includes reservation based on the economic status of a person is an efficient way of progressing. The income should be a major and the most prime factor in deciding the facilities provided.

Most of the so called ‘underprivileged and the poor’ in our society are either getting a good sum of money or are seen spending it on their luxuries and desires. This ends up with the fact that they are ‘officially’ poor on paper but are still enjoying the perks of being rich. There can be a very good solution to this problem. The students who are seeking admissions to various educational institutions on the basis of their reservation quota should seek help from the people of their category and profession only. A graduate MBBS doctor through reservation should be allowed to go for a treatment to a doctor of his very own line. The reservation would then be fair and just in a broader sense.

Discussing the current situation, it is very necessary for our nation to bring the status of equality among the people. The notion of reservation should be applied with caution so that they benefit the people who deserve. Because in the end, a nation which supports equality in all senses will pave its way towards progress and hence attain victory with flying colors.
